143 - Inductance Analysis of an Air Core Coil <ST>

Overview
Inductance Analysis of an Air Core Coil :Overview
Closeup
Air core coils that have a smaller inductance than a coil with a core are used in high-frequency filters and oscillators.
The inductance needs to be investigated thoroughly because any change to the dimensions can affect the inductance.
This example presents the use of a magnetic field analysis to compare the analyzed inductance of an air core coil with the inductance that is theorized.

Magnetic Flux Density Distribution/Inductance
The magnetic flux density distribution in the air region around the coil is indicated in Fig. 1 and the inductance of the coil is indicated in Table 1.
The inductance from the analysis and the inductance that is theorized are compared.
The density of the coil's flux linkage is higher in the center of the coil, as indicated in Fig. 1. The difference between the inductance obtained from the flux linkage and the inductance that is theorized is 0.28%. This proves the inductance obtained using an analysis is virtually accurate.
