| 19 - Analysis of the Centrifugal Force in an IPM motor<DS> |
Overview

Closeup |
An IPM motor has a magnet embedded in the rotor, it carries a risk that
the magnet may be displaced or come off the rotor core due to the centrifugal
force. The effects of centrifugal forces on the IPM motor can be analyzed
in JMAG while taking into account the contact between the magnet and the
rotor.
This example presents rotor displacement and stress distribution of an
IPM motor with and without the effects of partial magnet movement. |
Displacement

Closeup |
Both the rotor core and the magnet are displaced in the radial direction
when they are adhered completely. When they are only partially adhered,
the magnet region without adhering the rotor core displaces the rotor core
non-uniformly in the radial direction by centrifugal forces. |
Compressive Stress
In the case of complete adhesion, compressive stress is not imposed on
the contact area of the magnet and rotor since both the magnet and core
are displaced in the radial direction. In the case of partial adhesion,
compressive stress is imposed on the contact area since the rotor core
is displaced to the radial direction by the magnet.
Compressive stress may cause deterioration in magnetization properties
which will affect the magnetic circuit. |
