49 - High-Frequency Induction Heating Analysis of a Steel Sheet <FQ,HT>

Overview
***
Closeup
One method to heat a steel sheet uniformly is to translate the steel sheet.
In JMAG, the eddy current loss density distribution obtained by magnetic field analysis can be used as a heat source for thermal analysis.
This example presents the use of coupled magnetic field analysis and thermal analysis to obtain the eddy current loss density distribution and the temperature distribution of a steel sheet.

Eddy Current Loss Density Distribution
Eddy Current Loss Density Distribution
Closeup
Figure 1 shows the eddy current loss density distribution on the surface and the cross-section of the steel sheet. Magnetic field generated by a coil produces eddy currents in the steel sheet, and eddy currents are distributed on the surface of the steel sheet due to the skin effect.

Temperature Distribution
Figure 2 shows the temperature distribution of the steel sheet. The heat is generated on the steel sheet by eddy currents, and 10 seconds after the steel sheet passes through the coil, the temperature rises to higher than 800 degrees Celsius. By the translation of the steel sheet, the steel sheet is seen to be heated uniformly. In addition, the inside of the steel sheet is heated because of the heat transmission. Temperature Distribution
