One of the most important test conditions for a brushless permanent-magnet machine is the steady-state short-circuit condition, sometimes called the ‘sustained’ short-circuit. The term ‘steady-state’ is used here to distinguish this from the sudden short-circuit, which is a transient or dynamic fault condition of equal importance for other reasons not discussed here.
