Abstract

Linear motor with large continuous thrust / mass of mover ratio is required for lift-motion applications.
In order to meet such a requirement, we developed a new cylindrical linear motor (CLM).
In this paper, first, we will explain the motor structure and the thrust generating principle of CLM. Next, we will introduce the results of the three-dimensional FEM magnetic field analysis on the relation between mover structure and thrust characteristics, and report on the mover structure to maximize the thrust of CLM. Finally, we will introduce the experimental results of a prototype CLM.
