Abstract

In recent years, the loss reduction and the efficiency improvement of rotating machines are strongly desired, whereas the output density becomes higher and higher. As a consequence, the necessity of electromagnetic field analyses increases for the design of rotating machines because the losses at each part of the machines, which cannot be separated only by measured results, can be obtained by the electromagnetic field analyses. Furthermore, owing to the progress of computers and numerical techniques, the loss reduction and the efficiency improvement of rotating machines have been achieved by coupling the electromagnetic field analysis with structure analyses and optimization methods.
From these viewpoints, in this presentation, the characteristics improvements of rotating machines on the basis of the loss investigation and the shape optimization by using the electromagnetic field analysis and mechanical stress analysis will be reported and discussed.
