Abstract
The development of enhanced performance electric vehicle traction machines requires detailed inclusion of physical lamination properties in the machine modelling. For the example of a permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machine, the interaction between the operating temperature and the change in eddy current, hysteresis and excess losses is included, taking into account the impact of field redistribution due to the skin effect. This induces an improved modelling accuracy, allowing for a more detailed selection of the most suited ferromagnetic material for the traction machine.
