Abstract

This case study proposes a method to reduce eddy current loss in the stamped sheet coils of coreless axial gap motors to realize a high coil fill rate and high productivity. The design adds slits that alternate perpendicularly to the flow of current to successfully reduce eddy current losses by 36%. However, these machines require three-dimensional analyses that obtain the eddy current losses, which is difficult considering the available lead time. That is why this presentation also examines the effectiveness of the various JMAG parallel processing options to reduce the time required for these analyses.
