Created by Convergent Science, CONVERGE is an innovative computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software package ideal for simulating heat transfer in electromagnetic systems. With fully autonomous meshing, CONVERGE drastically reduces simulation setup time and easily handles complex geometries with moving boundaries.




Obtaining accurate temperature and heat transfer data is critical for designing effective thermal management systems for electric machines. CONVERGE’s conjugate heat transfer (CHT) modeling provides high fidelity temperature distributions and heat transfer coefficients to use in your JMAG-Designer calculations. To speed up CHT simulations, CONVERGE employs a novel super-cycling approach that significantly reduces the simulation runtime while maintaining a high level of accuracy. For a seamless workflow, you can directly import JMAG NASTRAN files into CONVERGE’s graphical user interface, CONVERGE Studio. CONVERGE Studio will read the geometry and automatically assign thermal boundary conditions or a volumetric heat generation source for CHT simulations.

In addition, CONVERGE contains robust multi-phase modeling capabilities to simulate liquid motor cooling. With several interface capturing schemes that maintain a sharp interface between the oil and gas, you can correctly predict phenomena such as oil coverage and the associated heat transfer.
CONVERGE features fully automated mesh generation, which eliminates the need to make a mesh manually and substantially reduces simulation setup time. CONVERGE employs a unique cut-cell technique that perfectly represents your geometry, no matter how complex, and regenerates the mesh locally as necessary at each timestep to seamlessly accommodate moving geometries. CONVERGE also offers Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR), which intelligently refines the mesh during the simulation to capture important physical phenomena, while minimizing the additional computational cost of the simulation.
