Overview

Step skews may be applied to rotor sides as so to reduce motor vibrations during run time. The below methods exist for running vibration analyses that account for step skews in JMAG.

  • Implementing magnetic field analysis and vibration analysis using 3D geometry
  • Implementing 2D magnetic field analysis and changing the rotor initial position to easily account for skew, mapping to a 3D model and running vibration analysis

The latter method has the disadvantage of being unable to account for the influence of axial direction magnetic flux, but the advantage of having a significantly reduced calculation time.
This document explains methodology for motor vibration analysis accounting for 2D step skew.
