Abstract
A principal source of vibration in DC motors is the electromagnetic forces acting on the stators. Commutation characteristics of a motor have a considerable influence on the generation of electromagnetic forces. In this paper, we present the commutation simulation of a DC motor and the analysis of electromagnetic forces taking commutation characteristics into account, and show the effect of the coupled analysis of commutation with electromagnetic field in predicting electromagnetic force, consequently vibration and noise.
