Overview
There is a growing trend toward the efficient storage and reuse of simulation data. Design candidates obtained through parametric study and optimization are extremely valuable, and by consolidating them into a database, cross-model comparison and analysis can be visualized and leveraged to generate new design concepts. JMAG provides a feature called JMAG Design Explorer, which automatically registers all calculated data into a database, allowing users to reuse it as needed.
JMAG Design Explorer can access, filter, graph and analyze data stored in a simulation database. By enabling users to reference not only the results from a single optimization run but also data from past optimization and parametric studies, it allows them to efficiently come up with optimal designs from a wide range of design candidates.
In this case study, JMAG Design Explorer is used to reference and compare ten different optimization results for two types of motors—IPM motors and induction motors—each with different magnet layouts and the cross-sectional shapes of secondary conductor. The objective functions were to maximize average efficiency during WLTC drive mode and minimize cost, in order to evaluate which motor type offers better efficiency improvements and cost advantages.
