Loss Analysis of Rotating Machines Considering Carrier Harmonics

Loss analysis methods for rotating machines considering carrier harmonics of inverter are introduced. The nonlinear time-domain finite element method is applied to consider the harmonic fields in the machines. The calculated results of the surface permanent magnet motor, interior permanent magnet motor and induction motor are compared with the measurements. The losses of each part of the machines, such as the stator and the rotor cores, permanent magnet and rotor conductor are investigated by the analyses. It is clarified that the losses much increase due to the carrier harmonics of the inverter in several cases.
