Abstract

In this presentation, approaches to topology optimization will be introduced.
Topology optimization is a shape optimization method that does not use design variables for expressing shape.
With topology optimization, since the shape can be changed without being constrained by design variables, the degree of freedom of design is high.
Moreover, since the optimization can be performed without resorting to expertise and preconceived ideas of designers, it is possible to obtain shapes completely different from shapes obtained from conventional ideas.
Here, the ideas behind topology optimization will be outlined, and several examples to applications will be presented.
