Abstract
AC copper losses become increasingly important in electric machine design nowadays, especially for high speed E-axle applications. Without careful consideration, AC copper losses can lead to efficiency degradation and can cause serious thermal problem. AC copper losses can be influenced by many factors, such as the operation frequency, load angle, temperature and winding types. Thus, to accurately predict AC copper losses, it is necessary to consider the aforementioned factors. A case study of machine designs with accurate AC resistance calculation is presented. The results of AC resistance variation as well as the impacts to the efficiency maps are illustrated. The ways how JMAG help set up AC copper losses models and generate efficiency maps are also presented.
