Abstract

This presentation describes an adjustable field magnetization PM motor with a 3D magnetic path and asymmetric magnet arrangement, which aims to achieve both high-torque operation and high-efficiency operation in the high-speed and low-torque regions. The characteristics of the adjustable field magnetization and the optimum operating parameters assuming the adjustable field magnetization are confirmed by 3D-FEA. A prototype motor based on the proposed method was fabricated, and the motor characteristics and the effect of adjustable field magnetization were verified by load tests.
