Abstract

Traction motors for electric drives are operated over variable speed and load.
Variable frequency voltage source inverters are widely used in electric drive system.
Harmonic contents from inverter current ripple result in additional motor losses which will contribute EV range.
Accurate loss calculation considering PWM and Harmonic is essential design edrive systems.
In this presentation, motor loss is evaluated under PWM switching including core loss, AC copper loss and magnet loss and compared with sine current showing noticeable difference in calculation result.
This presentation suggests that PWM consideration is essential to predict motor loss precisely.
