Abstract

Since magnets cost account for a large proportion of the material cost of PM motors, reducing the amount of magnets is an effective way to lower the cost. By optimizing the core shape near magnets and improving demagnetization resistance performance, we can make the magnets thinner, but such optimization is relatively difficult with conventional methods. In this presentation, we report the results of an attempt to derive a core shape that is effective in improving demagnetization resistance performance, using JMAG topology optimization method.
