Electromagnetic modelling has become a popular tool used by engineers, scientists and researchers. This publication describes a process of teaching the magnetic modelling to the students of the University of Auckland, New Zealand. The methodology of teaching to the undergraduate students, often limited to the 2D modelling with little of numerical background, is presented. The postgraduate programs exploring the 3D modelling and details of FEM methodology is also revealed. Some practical models constructed by the students and researchers are presented. These practical models, constructed for the purpose of local and international projects have been developed for the inductive power transfer systems technology, aluminum smelters, inductive heating systems and energy storage systems.
